PS5 in Black: When will Sony Release a Black PS5?

Are you thinking of buying a PlayStation 5 console, but you are not really keen on the black and white design? Are you waiting for new offerings from Sony? How about a black PlayStation 5 console? Does that sound good? Great, then find out when one will be available and what to do in the meantime to make your boring PS5 console into something extra to express yourself.

When will Sony release the PS5 console in black?

Unfortunately, Sony has so far not made an official statement regarding the release of a black version of the PlayStation 5 console. As such, it is safe to assume that this will not happen. Especially given that the company is offering something else to help with the colour change from January 2022 onwards. Why release several colour versions of consoles and make money once when you can make money on the console first and then on the gadgets, right? Well, let us tell you what Sony has prepared for those dissatisfied with the black and white version of the PS5.

Sony console personalisation – the PS5 console in all the colours of the rainbow

Well, okay, maybe not in all of them, but at least a few. We’ve waited a long time, but that wait is finally coming to an end. How so? Sony has thought things through and instead of selling the consoles themselves, it’s selling the consoles and the self-installing colour side panels separately.

PS5’s owners have long hoped for alternative colour variants of the console. However, until now, they have had to use unofficial products, and Sony has stubbornly fought against panels manufactured by third-party companies, but they lost, so they had to start producing them themselves.

And so, along with the console’s black covers announcement, Sony announced new colours for the DualSense controllers, which go on sale worldwide in January 2022.

In January, the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red versions hit the market in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea and the Philippines.

Then Sony released three more colour versions — Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple, so if any of these appeal to you, read on.

What’s the cost of PS5 covers in Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple?

Covers from Sony, as you might expect, are not among the cheapest. The cost of such a pleasure is between $50 and $60. However, it’s nothing compared to the cost of the console, so if you care about the look of your hardware, it’s worth getting spoilt.

PS5 controller customisation from Sony – controllers that match the covers

Sony hasn’t left controllers alone either. With the release of PlayStation 5 covers in five colours, Sony also started selling DualSense controllers in, as you might expect, five versions — Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple.

Unfortunately, in this case, they have not taken the chance to tweak the original. The PS5 controller design from Sony does not impress. The new PS5 DualSense controllers have the same functions and shape as the first, white model. And that’s a shame because the possibilities for improving this type of hardware are almost endless — we know best.

Customize your PlayStation 5 console and controllers

Sony failed to impress us with the customization capabilities of the PlayStation 5 console and controllers. In our opinion, the full potential of this type of design has not been realized. Focusing only on the visual aspect and charging as much as $50 for this pleasure did not appeal to gamers. Therefore, if you want to tackle customization, turn to professionals.
