As you may have gathered from the title, today, we are going to discuss the topic of TVs and monitors that meet the most demanding gaming expectations and are compatible with the latest generation of consoles. We will answer the question of what to look for when buying a TV for PS5 and Xbox game consoles. You will know what kind of TV for PS5 is the most advantageous. And also how to choose new TV for the next generation of consoles. So, without further ado, let us get down to business!

A quick guide – everything you need to know before buying a TV for next-generation consoles

Before you choose a new tv for the next generation of consoles, you should start by assessing your lifestyle, preferences, the type of games you play most often, and the parameters of your accommodation. Ultimately, every measurement and every feature depends on your needs and preferences. To make it easier, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is the size of your room?
  • How often do you game and what games do you play?
  • What are your preferred materials, styles or brands?
  • Will the TV be used for anything besides console gaming?
  • What are your storage requirements?
  • Do you need space for an audio system?
  • How often do you watch television or Netflix on your TV?

What type of TV to choose for the latest generation of consoles?

When choosing what TV to choose for PS5 and new-gen Microsoft consoles, you first need to consider what technology you want to bet on. Currently, on the market, we have mainly four basic types of new TV for the next generation of consoles. The most popular LED and OLED, the somewhat forgotten LCD and QLED are primarily manufactured by Samsung. This leaves the question – what TV to choose for PS5 or Xbox series X/S? LCD, LED, OLED or maybe QLED? A description of each of these options should make your choice easier.

  • LCD – is a device based on technology that relies on the use of a Liquid Crystal Display. LCD TVs use fluorescent lamps to illuminate the screen which consumes a lot of energy and limits the light intensity.
  • OLED uses Organic Light-Emitting Diodes placed in panels, which differ from ordinary LEDs in that they do not need additional backlight, as they shine on their own. This means that the construction of such TVs is much less complicated, they have much better colour reproduction and reduced response time – which is extremely important for all gamers!
  • LED – this type of TV also uses liquid crystal screens but the way of illuminating the matrix has been changed. Instead of fluorescent lamps, much more energy-efficient LEDs have been used, thanks to which the intensity of contrasts and even colours can be much better controlled.
  • QLED – is a technology used by Samsung, which is to be an improvement of LED TVs. The matrix is backlit by LEDs but has been enhanced with special panels with quantum dots. The dots change the wavelength of light passing through them, which allows for much more vivid colours and deeper saturation, yet does not affect the response time.

What size TV for the console?

Whether you are looking for an entry-level or high-end TV, the biggest factor in your decision will probably be the screen size. Consider how many people in your family typically watch TV at the same time and where you plan to place your new set. Then choose the largest screen size that will fit in that space and your budget. Currently, considering price, performance and a typical living room, a screen between 55 and 65 inches is the best option. Screen size also depends on how close you sit to the TV. Basically, if you can see individual pixels of the screen, you are too close.

What TV to choose for the new generation console?

Here are some of our picks when it comes to what TV for PS5 and Xbox consoles. Because unfortunately unlike controllers, you cannot customise or personalise a TV to suit your Xbox or PS5. So we have to settle for what is available.

Samsung QN75QN900AFXZA

The first of our picks is the Samsung QN75QN900AFXZA 2021 TV, with gaming-ready features on top of its superior colour accuracy. If you are wondering what TV to choose for Xbox series x and S then we recommend this one. Object tracking technology delivers 3D tracking effects for a more realistic gaming experience on the TV.

Combined with 8K upscaling technology and Samsung’s Neo Quantum 8K processor, sub-8K video is sharper and more detailed, while also featuring the superb audio quality so essential for multiplayer gaming.

Sony X90J 4K TV

One of the first Sony TV models to be compatible with the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. This line of Sony TVs has two HDMI 2.1 ports for connecting next-generation gaming consoles.  Sony X90J is equipped with two full-fledged HDMI 2.1 ports for connecting PS5 consoles, with variable refresh rates and an automatic low-latency mode, with less than 10ms of latency, greatly improving the gaming experience. The X90J TV also features the new Google TV smart platform, which makes setup easy and supports a wide range of apps, as well as Google Cast from Android devices. Sony’s top 2021 models feature the new Cognitive XR engine, which improves image scaling and contrast management to make images appear better than ever. It is one of our firm favourites both when it comes to new TVs for next generation of consoles.

Philips 48OLED806

As you can see, OLED technology has quickly won our hearts. The OLED806 comes with two 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K at 120Hz, VRR on all current versions and ALLM, which makes it an unusually game-ready TV. It is more clear and more defined than rival OLED TVs, and it approaches gaming with flair. The sound quality is at the level of what you would hope for in a TV, and the wonderful Ambilight technology adds an extra element of uniqueness to whatever you are playing or watching. That said, it lacks support for 4K@120Hz with Dolby Vision, though Dolby Vision games run up to 60Hz. As far as overall performance is concerned, the OLED806 is just extremely powerful. Definitely worth a look if you are unsure what tv to choose for PS5 or Xbox One!
