Lag

In video gaming, an unintended or unforeseen delay between an action’s commencement and conclusion, typically hampering the gameplay experience. Lag can emerge from various processes in a video game, each with distinct ramifications:

Frame lag: A delay in frame processing often caused by an excess of active objects. The result is jerky movement, and can lead to either slowed gameplay relative to real-time or reduced player control precision.
Rendering lag: A delay in rendering a processed frame, often because of a high number of polygons or visual effects. It can cause frames to render incompletely, omitting visual aspects or entire objects.
Server-side lag: Pertinent only in online multiplayer games, it’s a delay between the client or server sharing information and its receipt. This rarely mimics frame or rendering lag but leads to effects like dropped inputs, desynchronisation, rubber-banding, or players getting kicked off.
